Dr. Stephen R. Rice
Dr. Steve Rice received his Bachelor of Science degree (with honors) from SIU-E in 1983 and his Doctor of Optometry degree (with honors) from the University of Missouri-St. Louis School of Optometry in 1987. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry. Steve is very involved in his chosen profession as he has previously served as the President of the Greater Ozarks Optometric Society, Trustee of the Missouri Optometric Association, and Chair of the Clinical/Educational Affairs Committee, Chair of the Missouri Optometric Political Action Committee, and Board Member of the Missouri Optometric Foundation. In addition, Steve is the State Administrator for Vision Source and was recognized as the Vision Source Administrator of the Year in 2008. He was awarded the Missouri Optometric Association’s highest honor in 2012 when he received the Optometrist of the Year Award.
His past community involvement includes: Springfield Catholic Schools Development Board (member 1996-2000); Junior League Community Advisory Board (member 2001-present); United Way (past Optometry Chair, Professional Division); Easter Seals (former Telethon VIP Chair); Cub Scout Den Leader and Assistant Scoutmaster; Ozark Trails Council Executive Board; Youth Baseball and Basketball Coach; and Leadership Springfield Graduate-Class VIII. Steve holds membership in the American Optometric Association, Missouri Optometric Association, Greater Ozarks Optometric Society, Heart of America Contact Lens Society, and Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity (VOSH). VOSH is a volunteer group that travels to third world countries to deliver free eye care (exams, eyeglasses, and medicines). Dr. Rice has provided free eye care for patients in Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Bolivia, Honduras, and Panama. His most proud accomplishment was being honored with Rotary International’s ‘Service Above Self’ Award. This award is Rotary’s most esteemed award as it is bestowed upon individuals who have demonstrated exemplary humanitarian service with an emphasis on personal volunteer efforts on a continuing basis. There are over one million Rotarians worldwide. In addition, in 2014, he received Springfield Southeast Rotary’s highest award when he was presented with the Volunteer of the Year Award.
His family includes his wife, Karen; his son, Kevin; and his daughter, Stephanie. The family enjoys bike riding, snow skiing, sports, travel, and time spent together.
Dr. Darren A. Plank
Dr. Plank received his Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Missouri State University and his Doctor of Optometry degree (with honors) from the University of Missouri- St. Louis School of Optometry. Dr. Plank has served as President of the Greater Ozarks Optometric Society and as a Board member of the Nixa Area Chamber of Commerce. He has previously been honored as the Young Optometrist of the Year by the Missouri Optometric Association, and is a longstanding member of the American Optometric Association. Volunteer work includes time assisting the United Way and Lion’s Club International, as well as supporting crippled children as a Shriner. Dr. Plank is married to Niesje and they enjoy spending time together. Dr. Plank is an excellent fisherman as evidenced by his many tournament victories.
Dr. Brad C. Lewis
Dr. Brad Lewis is a 2002 graduate (with honors) of the University of Missouri St. Louis College of Optometry. He is a member of the MOA, AOA, and AOA PAC. While attending Optometry School, Dr. Lewis received numerous accolades including the National AOA Student Leadership Award and the Missouri Optometric Foundation Leadership Award. He is married to Mitzi Lewis, also an optometrist, who is the daughter of Dr. Lynn Herndon. Mitzi and Brad have two kids named Gaige and Gannon who keep them quite busy while at home. In his free time, Dr. Lewis enjoys golfing, wakeboarding, wakesurfing, traveling to remote islands, and spending time with family and friends. Community activities include: Leadership Springfield, Board Member of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Committee chairman for the Education division of the Missouri Optometric Association, and Chairman of the Optometric Division of the United Way.
Dr. Mitzi Lewis received her Bachelor of Science degree (with honors) from Southwest Missouri State University in 1998 and her doctor of optometry degree (with honors) from the University of Missouri – St. Louis College of Optometry in 2002. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, Missouri Optometric Association, AOA-Political Action Committee, and Greater Ozarks Optometric Society. She currently serves on the Missouri Optometric Association Clinical Education committee. Mitzi is the wife of Dr. Brad Lewis and daughter of Dr. Lynn Herndon, both of which work with her at the Vision Clinic. Dr. Lewis spends most of her free time taking care of her two sons, Gaige and Gannon. She also enjoys traveling, reading, and Cardinals baseball.
Dr. Emily S. Thomas
Dr. Thomas is a 2008 graduate (with honors) from the University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Optometry. She also attended UMSL for her undergraduate studies, majoring in Biology and graduating from the Pierre Laclede Honors College. Currently, Dr. Thomas is a member of the American Optometric Association (specifically, the Contact Lens and Cornea Section), the Missouri Optometric Association, Greater Ozarks Optometric Society, and the Heart of America Contact Lens Society. She is also a provider for InfantSee, a national program which allows optometrists to give free eye examinations to babies less than one year old to detect and prevent future vision problems.
In 2007, Dr. Thomas had the opportunity to travel to northern Thailand where optometric volunteers provided over 26,000 Thai people with eye examinations and prescription glasses. She plans on participating in more of these humanitarian trips throughout the rest of her career.
Dr. Thomas enjoys living in Springfield, spending time with family and friends, and traveling. Additionally, she is President of the Greater Ozarks Optometric Society and an advisor for Leadership Academy (a leadership program for high school juniors). She is a past board member of the Springfield Rotaract service organization and is an alum of Leadership Springfield Class XXV.
Dr. M. Kory Scullawl
Dr. Scullawl is a 2003 graduate (with honors) of the Oklahoma College of Optometry. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK. Dr. Scullawl is a member of Missouri Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, AOA-PAC, and OAOP. He is also a member of the Downtown Springfield Association and the Urban Districts Alliance. While attending optometry school, Dr. Kory received numerous awards including “Excellence in Ocular Disease” and was elected the AOA-PAC national liaison.
Dr. Kory married his wife Bethany in Springfield on June 5th, 2010. They have have two daughters, Eliza and Emilia, and two dogs, Gryffen and Cassie. In his free time, Dr. Kory enjoys golfing and water sports. He also enjoys traveling, and has backpacked in Europe four times.
Dr. Katie Galbraith
Dr. Galbraith is a 2016 graduate (with honors) of the Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry. She attended Missouri State University for her undergraduate studies, majoring in Cell and Molecular Biology and graduating from the Honors College. Dr. Galbraith is a member of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) and has a passion for working with pediatric patients. She is currently working to achieve her fellowship through COVD. Dr. Galbraith is also a member of the Missouri Optometric Association and American Optometric Association. During her time in optometry school Dr. Galbraith was the recipient of the Beta Sigma Kappa Silver Medal. In 2015 she had the opportunity to travel to Roatan, Honduras to provide medical eye care and glasses to people on the island. Dr. Galbraith married her husband Daniel in 2012. In their free time they enjoy traveling, weekends on the lake and spending time with their friends, family, and two dogs.
Dr. Emily Edwards
Dr. Edwards is a 2016 graduate (with honors) of the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. She attended Missouri State University for her undergraduate studies, majoring in Cell and Molecular Biology and graduating from the Honors College. Dr. Edwards is a member of the Missouri Optometric Association as well as the American Optometric Association. During her time in optometry school, Dr. Edwards was involved with Lions Club, Fellowship of Christian Optometrists, and SVOSH (Student Volunteers in Optometric Services for Humanity). With SVOSH, she had the opportunity to serve in underprivileged communities in Honduras, Mexico, Colombia, and Haiti providing eye exams and glasses. Dr. Edwards also had the opportunity to intern in rural Alaska during optometry school, serving the native population. In her free time, she likes to adventure/travel, garden, cook for friends, be involved at her church, and spend time with family.
With over twenty-five years in administration Lori looks forward to helping the Vision Clinic remain the best in the Ozarks. She is excited to build lasting relationships with patients and the Vision Clinic team. In her spare time she enjoys spending time outdoors with friends and family.
Marsha joined Vision Clinic in 2007 and became clinic manager for Vision Clinic-Springfield in 2015. Her passion is to create the most unique and memorable patient experience and knows it is not possible without the great team of doctors and staff we are so fortunate to have. 50 years and counting for Vision Clinic and Marsha is honored to be a part of it. She strives for making that first time patient a lifelong one!! Away from Vision Clinic, you will find her at the gym or hanging with her boys!
As team leader of the front desk, Teresa loves helping to build on the strengths of the staff to provide the best customer service available. Teresa’s belief is that you can work hard and have fun at the same time. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and is active in her church. Her favorite pastime is spending time with her granddaughter Kate, who we have all grown to love and adore her at Vision Clinic!
Distinguished for her smile and sweet disposition, Deann has twenty plus years of providing customer service to our patients. In her spare time, Deann loves spending time with her family and enjoying the outdoors with her furbabies Zoey and Kacey.
If you have been a patient of Vision Clinic for many years, more than likely, you have met Shawna. Going on twenty-two years, Shawna has been greeting our patients as they check-in or answering any questions as they check-out. She serves as our resident notary and holds credentials as a Certified Paraoptometric. In her spare time, she enjoys going to her son’s baseball games and going to the lake with her husband Jeff of 18 years.
A fresh and friendly addition to the Vision Clinic front desk is Whitney. Responsible for checking in and scheduling appointments, Whitney’s gentle and gracious demeanor will surely make for a refreshing beginning to your visit with the clinic. In her spare time, Whitney enjoys hanging out with her young daughter watching Netflix.
Georgette happily scribes for our doctors in the examination room and has obtained national recognition as a Certified Paraoptometric Technician. Vision Clinic has a successful reputation of fitting speciality contact lenses and Georgette leads the team in this endeavour.
With over 11 years experience, Stacie enjoys giving patients the best eye care possible. She has seen the Vision Clinic grow from a 2 clinic practice to the current 5 clinic practice. She believes that the Optomap Digital Retinal Imaging is the best technology and that everyone should have one. When she is not at the Vision Clinic, she is cheering her two teenagers on in their sporting events.
Laura’s job combines some of her favorite parts of vision care; she enjoys interacting with patients and providing top notch service to anyone she encounters! In the lane as a scribe, assisting the doctor, is where you will find her most of the time. She loves the challenge that her position brings and looks forward to her next opportunity! Outside of patient care, you will find Laura spending time with her 5 kiddos and soon to be husband.
Savannah has been serving in the medical field for 3 years now. She has had experience in Ophthalmology, working with a retinal specialist and now enjoys seeing patients for glasses and contacts here at the Vision Clinic. In her free time she loves watching movies, hanging out with her daughter and helping her husband with his basketball coaching.
Chelsea enjoys getting to know her patients and helping them to have the best experience possible. Always professional, but sure to make you laugh with her quick wit!
Katie loves working one on one with patients and providing exceptional patient care. Her passion is to make sure that every contact lens order is correct! On her days off, she enjoys spending time with her family, and 3 giant dogs. She can’t wait to see you at your next eye exam!
Marissa grew up in Nevada, MO. After moving here for school in 2013 she quickly realized that she wanted to pursue a career where she was making a difference and helping people. She plans on continuing to study and become certified in all levels of a technician position so that she can grow and move forward with Vision Clinic for years to come. In her spare time she enjoys traveling to new places to explore other cultures and spending time with her husband and two dogs.
Kelsie grew up in the small town of Ava where fun was found at the creeks and grassy fields. She moved to Springfield several years ago and loves it. Since working at Vision Clinic, she has not only learned so many things about the medical field but has also built a relationship with the people she works with.
Carli has been with the Vision Clinic since May of 2016 and loves the direct patient care of being a technician. Carli is using this time to learn all she can before entering Optometry school this fall. She is finishing out her last semester at Missouri State University and will graduate in May. We wish her the best of luck and know she will be a great Optometrist!
Rachael graduated from OTC in May 2016 and joined team Vision Clinic early 2017. She is so excited to be apart of this great team and enjoying all the benefits her position here at Vision Clinic has to offer. Patient care is extremely important to her and she brings with her CPR certification and ACE certified personal training. Attending college as a single mother, while working, is an accomplishment of Rachael’s that she is very proud of.
Paige is new to team Vision Clinic. She loves talking with patients and providing the best care she can. She is excited to grow within Vision Clinic. She loves to be outside and around animals. One day she hopes to be able to scuba dive with sharks. She is getting married this spring to the love of her life and best friend.
Minnie is originally from Memphis and has a background in customer service. She loves being a part of patient eye care. In her free time she enjoys time with family, adventures, and is obsessed with all things Disney!
Josey has worked in the medical field for three years but is new to optometry. She is excited to see what she can learn in this new arena. In her free time she loves to work on crafts and almost always has a hot glue gun in her hand. She also enjoys time with friends and family and traveling.
With 8 years of experience and 2 national certifications, Heather leads her team as the Optical Lab manager to ensuring our patients are taken care of to the highest quality. If she’s not in the clinic, you’ll find her in bridal bliss planning her upcoming wedding!
Always full of personality, Kelli brings 21 years of optical experience to Vision Clinic. Having a flair to make each patient’s experience memorable, is just one of Kelli’s many talents. Kelli enjoys spending time with family and friends, singing, and a great cup of coffee!
Having 18 years of experience in the optical field, Kim brings a wealth of knowledge and professionalism to Vision Clinic. Being a Wonder Woman fan, Kim’s love and eagerness to help patients pick the perfect pair of glasses makes her our very own superhero!! Kim loves spending time with her family. Her other passions include her fur babies, her love of sewing and being a Walking Dead Fan.
Heather has been in optical for about 2 years now. She has great attention to detail at both work and home. Rumor is…she loves to cook!. From styling to explaining the options that best fit their lifestyle and visual needs, Heather enjoys the time spent with each and every patient she has the pleasure of meeting.
Inna has been working in the optical industry from the fashion aspect. Crazy, fun and colorful is what she is most drawn too. Coming from private practices, Inna enjoys working for community-focused businesses like Vision Clinic. While spending most of her free time outdoors on high peaks.
ReAunna recently joined Vision Clinic as an optician and can not wait to see where the journey takes her. In her free time, she enjoys skydiving, hiking, playing volleyball, and spending time with her sisters and friends. She is thankful for the opportunity and is looking forward to seeing the smiling faces of patients as they leave with their new glasses!

Other adventures include studying abroad in China for 4 months and spending as much time as she can with Luther, her 95 pound fur baby!
Alicia brings a wealth of knowledge and several years of experience in the optical industry. She is eager to apply that knowledge and is already setting goals to becoming ABO and NCLE certified. While pursuing her optical certifications, she will continue to pursue her BSN as well. In her spare time, you will find her training in the gym or hanging with Titus and Yaeger, her furbabies!
With experience on the optical floor and in our finishing lab, Sherry has 8 years experience in the optical industry. Daily roles include ordering lenses for each pair of glasses sold, cutting lenses to fit the frame, and before you as a patient pick them up, she initializes the final inspection. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and eating chocolate cake!!
Tonya has been with Vision Clinic for over 26 years! During that time she has had the unique pleasure of working with every doctor who has practiced at the clinic, including Dr. Sommers and Dr. White. Away from the office she likes to spend time with her husband, three children, and three fur babies.
Beginning his optical experience in 1993 and Vision Clinic experience in 2008, Rob truly finds his passion working in the optical laboratory. In 1994, he acquired his certification with the American Board of Opticianry. The most enjoyable part of working as a lab technician for Rob is making eyewear for small children and seeing their eyes light up when trying them on for the first time. An avid collector/reseller of vinyl records, Rob spends his free time working on a hobby that has led him to helping organize a local event, the Route 66 Record Show, that occurs bi-annually here in the Springfield area. He also enjoys spending time with his wife Deann, who also works at Vision Clinic, his son Josh, and their 2 dogs.
Jeff brings many years of experience to the Vision Clinic. Originally from California Jeff moved to the area 14 years ago. In his spare time he enjoys the outdoors, mountain biking, hiking, and working in the yard.
Cindy has worked at Vision Clinic for fourteen years and has attained national recognition via certification as an Optometric coding expert. When not with her Vision Clinic family, she is spending time with her husband and son.
With over eighteen years experience in Optometry, and being a part of all the healthcare changes, Susie is passionate about insurance, both medical and vision. She is great in helping patients to understand their coverage and filing it correctly for prompt payment.
Ashley’s smiling face is ready to greet you when you first walk in the Vision Clinic doors. With the official title of greeter, Ashley is responsible for making that first great impression and she does it very well!. With her natural, friendly disposition and kind heart, Ashley is willing and able to help in any situation. In her free time, she enjoys hiking with her two daughters, traveling the country or the world (should the occasion arise), and photography.
Inventory and Merchandising
Cortney joined Vision Clinic in 2010 after earning her B.S degree from University of Central Arkansas. She brought with her a minor in FACS offering her merchandising background as the perfect compliment to our showroom. Cortney’s keen eye is responsible for each pair of glasses you see neatly placed throughout our 5 clinics. She and her husband Jordan are excited to welcome a sweet baby boy to their family this Spring!
Brandie wears several hats here at Vision Clinic, and she wears them well! She works alongside Cortney with frame inventory and merchandising, as well as assisting her fellow opticians throughout the day to make the patient experience the best it can be. A few days a week, you will also see Brandie’s friendly and welcoming smile as she awaits your arrival as Vision Clinic greeter. Brandie has worked for Vision Clinic for close to 5 years, and truly enjoys everyone she works with. She is a mother of 3 girls and with any spare time, you can find her reading a good book or watching a good ol’ game of hockey or baseball.
